Carrying on the Tradition
Zeitlin Optik is a family business in its twenty-fifth year on 52nd Street Street in midtown Manhattan. Founder Marc Zeitlin’s aim was to offer unique eyewear of the highest quality. He took great pride in his craft and was known for his expert and personable service. At times the shop had the intimacy of a favorite hangout where clients and frame reps alike came to catch up with him.
As a boy Marc worked in his family’s beachfront restaurant in Far Rockaway. Every summer he was at the grill or the cash register, serving hundreds of beachgoers. From a young age he dreamed of having his own business.
Marc’s daughter Rachel grew up with Zeitlin Optik and is now running the business. She remembers her father always instructing: “These are our clients. We don’t refer to them as customers because it denotes a one-time transaction and we are all about building relationships.”
After working with and learning alongside her father over the years Rachel creates relationships with Zeitlin Optik clientele today based on her father’s core values. She brings her father’s demand for excellence and sense of style to her work.
Rachel Zeitlin says, “In this fast-paced world it is nice to step into a place where people take the time to get to know you and who care about how you are seeing.” In describing working with her father she said he could be a lot of fun. “He always introduced me by saying I was just like him but with a far superior mustache.”
