“I’ve been buying glasses from Marc Zeitlin for about 15 years. Marc is a man who brings a missionary-like zeal to his work, and it shows: His lenses are outstanding. And it’s not just me who thinks so: Two different eye doctors who’ve examined me have commented—unprompted and spontaneously—on the high quality of my lenses. Zeitlin’s frames are first caliber, too. No doubt a chain store will have 700 frames to pick from—and 600 will be junk. Here you’ll find a very well edited selection, where the quality and style more than make up for the quantity. Service is professional, personable, and accommodating. I myself am fairly indecisive when it comes to frame selection; the patience exhibited by Zeitlin + staff is otherworldly. If you need 4 hours to try and retry frames, they seem to be fine with it. On a related note: I’d also characterize the service style as leisurely. This is a store where chatting and storytelling is as much a part of the process as getting fitted for new glasses is. If you are a person who just wants to zip in and zip out and keep strictly to business, you need to tell them upfront that your time is limited. “I nearly cried last year when I left Zeitlin wearing my new glasses. It was as if I was 10 again – nearly 50 years ago – and got my first pair of glasses, and saw the leaves on trees for the first time. Priceless.”
“Last week, on my first visit to NYC, I broke my reading glasses. With
an opera to attend that evening and a flight to catch next day, time was
short. I tried two other opticians for a fast solution, without
success, but happily, the second referred me to Zeitlin. Eddie and his
assistant were delightful to deal with. I’m sorry not to have learned
the assistant’s name - it only took him three tries to find me the
perfect frames. Eddie did a running repair on the old glasses so that I
could read my programme at the opera. Next day the new glasses were
ready at the time promised, and I was all set to read my book and watch
movies on the little chairback screen on the way home. Since my return I
have had many compliments about the frames, and I do appreciate the
quality of the lenses, as I have not experienced such comfort when
